Reinventing Myself After Surgery: A Journey Beyond Hairdressing

I’ve recently had to put my hairstylist job on hold due to having Rotator cuff and bicep shoulder surgery. https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC3678666/

What started out as surgery on January 14 has now been the hardest and most painful thing I’ve had to go through since my son, who is now 22, was in the NICU unit after being born prematurely.

At this stage post surgery, my shoulder is starting to not hurt as much every day, but I am still in the Passive range of motion stage of physical therapy. This means that I cannot move my shoulder myself. Next week I start active assist range of motion and will be able to move my arm more freely with assistance, meaning a cane or stick. I’ll tell you this is not been fun. Especially if you’re as active as me.

I’ve been a hairdresser for over 30 years and the wear and tear on my body is just crazy. A few years ago I had to have plantar fasciitis surgery for all the standing on my feet. While I love doing hair my body just can’t take it anymore. I figure I probably have about five years left in me.😂

I’ve looked up remote jobs from home. They all do not look fun. I have to like what I’m doing. I like helping people. I like talking to adults. This being at home and not being able to clean or cook like I would want to has been really hard.

I’ve watched Streaming TV series that there is. I don’t even have the TV on anymore. I miss work. I miss my coworkers. I miss my clients. I’ve gotten extremely bored. I had to find something to do besides trying to get some of this weight off.

So after some research and reading my old blog that I had back in 2018 I decided that it was time to maybe start again and give this a whirl. I’m not much into network marketing anymore although I used to do that back in the day when my son was young and I had more energy.

The thought of affiliate marketing, SEO and all that website stuff seems so foreign to me at my age. I just turned 55 in February. These younger people who are blogging these days seem to know what they are doing so why not just follow their lead and try something new.

I named this blog running with scissors after 50 because running with scissors means careless and risky which is how I’m feeling feeling about anything new that I decide to do in my life now being over 50. And of course the scissors are metaphor for my job as a hairstylist.😊
